Marek Grechuta has immensely influenced the polish way to write songs, to sing them & to perform them
he was maybe the most prominent singer in Poland, although nearly completely unknown to the rest of the world
the main cause of his limited popularity is of course the polish language, how many people out there understand polish at all ?
but i suppose it's not just that, it's the very special sort of polish soul shining through his performance
Marek Grechuta sang just one sort of songs - poesy - absolutely remarkable sort of poesy, typical polish i would say
some texts are taken directly from known polish poets like Adam Mickiewicz, Jan Tuwim, Stanislaw Wyspianski,
but most texts are new written, partialy by Marek Grechuta, partialy he wrote the music
one could call the songs romantic, but that is too superficial,
they are bittersweet, dreamy, yearning, melancholic, philosophical, witty, dry, intellectual, ironic, funny, sad, soft, foggy, sketchy, jumping, allegoric
